Berlin, 02. Juni 2025 – CODE University of Applied Sciences has appointed Klaus Lutz to its University Council. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Giesecke+Devrient and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria will take over as Chair of the Council.

“With Klaus Lutz, we are gaining one of Germany’s most distinguished business leaders to help shape the strategic development of our university,” says Prof. Dr. Peter Ruppel, President of CODE. “He stands for economic foresight, technological sovereignty, and social commitment — values that are deeply embedded in CODE’s identity.”

Klaus Lutz, as President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria (IHK), represents more than 420,000 companies, with a strong focus on innovation, talent development, and corporate responsibility. He is also President of the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce (BIHK) and a presidium member of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). As Chairman of Giesecke+Devrient, a global leader in security technology, he works at the intersection of high technology, security, and digitalization.

Lutz is recognized as a renowned turnaround expert, having successfully restructured companies across seven different industries. He served for many years as CEO of BayWa AG, transforming it into an international technology and trading group, and previously led the restructuring of Süddeutscher Verlag, the publisher of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. In addition, he is an active startup investor and Honorary Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

“CODE stands for an approach to education that unites technological excellence, entrepreneurial thinking, and societal relevance,” says Klaus Lutz. “I look forward to supporting and advancing this vision as part of the University Council.”

With Klaus Lutz joining the University Council, CODE is deliberately expanding its dialogue beyond the startup ecosystem — engaging directly with established industry and societal institutions.
