FAQ

No, you don't need to move to Berlin. However, you must attend on-campus events at the beginning and end of each semester as well as one in-person check-in in the middle, totaling around 14 days per semester for full-time students (around 7 days for part-time). The rest of the academic offerings will be remote to ensure maximum flexibility. Of course, you can still use the campus at any time.

As our study programs are in English, you must prove that your English skills are at least at a B2 level. Here’s a summary of how you can show proof of your language skills; please check the admission regulations  for more details and minimum scores.

You are a native English speaker:

  • You are a citizen of a predominantly English-speaking country

You attended English-speaking institutions:

  • You underwent most of your primary and secondary education in a majority English-speaking country
  • You have a university degree which was taught in English

You completed school in Germany or the EU/EEA:

  • (Fach-)Hochschulreife
  • EU + EEA secondary school certificate

You have a valid English proficiency certificate:

  • IELTS Academic
  • TOEFL
  • Duolingo English Test
  • Cambridge Certificates
  • (I)GCSE

Certain sources may also tell you that you will need a certificate that proves sufficient German skills; however we do not require a proof of German language proficiency.

No, everything at CODE is conducted entirely in English.

If you are from outside the EU, you will need a student visa to start your studies at CODE. Your best course of action would be to contact the German embassy in your country  as early as possible to get the specifications for the process.

In general, you will have to meet these requirements for a student visa:

  • a valid passport
  • health insurance that covers Germany
  • proof of secure livelihood, e.g., blocked account
  • a letter of admission from CODE
(you will get this from our student affairs team once you have passed all stages of the admissions process)

If there are any additional documents you need from us for your visa application, please reach out to us.

While our Bachelor's program focuses heavily on project-based learning, the Master's program has a slightly different approach due to its shorter format. Diving deep into project-based learning can be quite time-consuming, so it's not fully suitable for the entire Master's curriculum. But if you're in the 120 ECTS track, you’ll get to experience one dedicated project module.

The rest of the Master's program is challenge-based, keeping things dynamic and practice-driven. This means you'll tackle real-world problems and come up with practical solutions, all while getting hands-on experience.

Plus, we're super supportive of our students' interests. If you have your own challenges or ideas you want to explore, we're all ears and ready to incorporate them into your learning journey!

Nope.

While CODE is a fully state-accredited university of applied sciences, the accreditation process for this brand-new Master's program is currently pending. This means we have started the process but have not yet completed it, which is a standard procedure for new study programs at universities. We expect to complete the accreditation process in the first half of 2025. This was also the case for our initial Bachelor programs back when CODE was founded, so we are well-versed in the process.

The appropriate ECTS track for you depends entirely on your Bachelor's degree. To earn a Master's degree, students must acquire a total of 300 ECTS between their Bachelor's and Master's studies. German Bachelor's degrees usually have 180 ECTS, requiring an additional 120 ECTS for the Master's degree. International Bachelor's degrees often have more ECTS, so they may only need 60 or 90 ECTS. You may find the ECTS count on your Bachelor's degree transcript.

We do not offer a standardized 90 ECTS track. However, it is possible to create a 90 ECTS track with minimal adjustments to the study plan. If you are interested in pursuing this option, please contact us, and we will be happy to discuss how we can accommodate your needs.

We are always happy to help with any questions you might have. For general inquiries, please email us at hello@code.berlin . For admission-related matters, you can reach us at admissions@code.berlin .
