Vice President

CODE is a newly-founded private university of applied sciences that is embedded into the vibrant network of Berlin’s digital economy. At the core of our study programs are a self-directed project-based learning concept, a close mentoring approach, and a complementary liberal arts program, accompanied by seminars and workshops with an advanced flipped-classroom concept.

Together with a network of partner organizations, our goal is to provide students with practical, real-world, and digitally-oriented education and the ability to face the technological and social changes and challenges of tomorrow.

About the role

You report to the President, and to foster the growth of CODE, you will work closely with the President, the Head of Academic Coordination and the Program Coordinators to create policies, growth strategies, and drive the CODE mission. You will foster the culture and ensure that CODE is a healthy working and learning environment. You will be a vital participant in cross-facilitating communication for information and findings between the faculty teams and between the faculty and administrative teams.

As the Vice President, your main responsibility will be to work with and support the faculty team of CODE as a facilitator, coordinator, and channel of communication. You will foster the personal and professional development of all professors and contribute to the open discussions and feedback about what it means to be a professor at CODE. This includes managing all faculty appointment procedures as well as faculty quality management. You will also own the process of budget oversight, and aligning departments.

Since as Vice President, you are also a professor at CODE, you are responsible for your own research, teaching and mentoring activities.

General set-up

The position can be filled as fast as possible. The duration of the contract is limited (with the possibility of extension). The location of the job is in Berlin. The salary corresponds to the standards of the university.

Responsibilities

  • Support the day to day work-related needs of the individual faculty members
  • Provide leadership and alignment for and the faculty team members
  • Handle all HR requests and personal development for faculty
  • Ensure effective meeting culture and communication for faculty
  • Assist the President with quality management and accreditation management
  • Create alignment and coordination for interdisciplinary planning in teaching and research
  • Provide support and assistance to teams for interdisciplinary and cross-functional alignment
  • Responsible, in combination with the appointed special commissioner, for quality assurance of the faculty department
  • Working closely with Academic Coordinator in regards to assemblies, committees, and regulations
  • Moderating general assemblies and ensuring execution for all study programs
  • Work with the management team to define budgets for programs as well as overseeing the allocation of funds and ensure all modules are balanced and effective

  • Strong moderation and facilitation skills for an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and concepts
  • Ability to drive progress forward and create alignment
  • Broader strategic background & experience in academia
  • Strong digital literacy and knowledge of the fields relevant to the curriculum of CODE
  • Openness and excitement for CODE’s progressive learning environment and culture
  • Experience with people leadership to support engagement and development
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust in an environment of change
  • Resiliency after changes or setbacks
  • A university degree, a doctorate or Ph.D., pedagogical experience, and 3 years of professional work experience outside the university (according to Berlin Act on Higher Education (BerlHG) §100)
  • You need to be comfortable with communicating and teaching in English; international experience is an asset. German language skills are desirable.
    Candidates must meet the formal requirements as stated in §100 Berliner Hochschulgesetz. This typically requires five years of relevant work experience, at least three of them outside higher education. The candidate’s academic qualification for a professorship is usually demonstrated by a doctorate or a Ph.D. Pedagogical experience is also required.
